Sanding discs for automotive bodyshops

A sanding disc order needs more detail than the grit alone. Diameter, attachment, hole pattern and stage of work determine whether a reference suits the workshop equipment. At SIC Refinish you can enquire about 3M and Carsystem abrasives to organise preparation and finishing around specific products.

Check diameter, attachment and extraction together

Start with the sander and its backing pad. Note the diameter and attachment system, and check how dust is collected. Two discs with the same diameter can have different backings or hole patterns. A photo of the disc and backing pad can help identify a replacement, but include the equipment model as well.

Examples in the catalogue include Carsystem F.19 in 150 mm and P80, and 3M Cubitron II 737U in 150 mm and 80+. Keep the exact grade designation: do not convert codes between ranges or assume the same process merely because the numbers look similar.

Separate preparation abrasives from finishing products

A repair may require several references through the course of the job. Organise the order by task and surface, following the sequence in the technical data sheet for your system. Using a preparation disc for longer does not turn it into a finishing disc.

The listings below show specific references, not every grade in each range. You can also enquire about Trizact discs for refinement stages. Always check diameter, grade and method of use in the relevant documentation before adding them to a sanding sequence.

Compare boxes without getting the quantity wrong

A box is a sales unit, but its number of discs depends on the reference. When comparing offers, note the contents and calculate how many discs you receive in total. Do not compare a price per disc with a price per box, or quotes that treat taxes differently.

For example, if you need 100 discs of a reference sold in boxes of 50, order two boxes. That calculation does not make the box an assortment of grades. If you need P80 and another reference for a later stage, create separate lines with their own quantities.

Plan replenishment by workstation

Keep a list of the references used at each workstation, along with the equipment and usual task. Record consumption over a representative period before deciding how much to order. Checking which discs run out is more useful than replenishing every box in equal quantities.

When requesting material from SIC Refinish, send that list with the destination and required date. We can review the catalogue references and enquiries about other formats. Available products, supplied quantities and terms must be confirmed in the listing or quote.

An order list that helps avoid incompatible discs

  1. Identify the sander, backing pad and diameter used at each workstation.
  2. Note the exact reference, grade, attachment and extraction pattern of the disc you want to replace.
  3. Separate preparation and finishing. Check the recommended sequence for the material and paint system.
  4. Convert your requirements into boxes using the contents of each reference. Confirm the order terms before buying.

  • Keep different diameters and references on separate lines.
  • Confirm whether each box contains just one grade.
  • Check the backing pad condition and equipment extraction.
  • Compare price and quantity using the same sales unit.

Your questions answered

Will every 150 mm disc fit my sander?

Diameter is only one check. You also need to review attachment, backing pad, extraction and intended use. Include your machine model when enquiring about a reference.

Does the box contain several grades?

Do not assume that from a range photograph. The F.19 P80 and Cubitron II 737U 80+ listings on this page each correspond to one specific grade. Each additional stage needs its own reference.

Can I request both 75 mm and 150 mm discs?

The catalogue includes references in both diameters, depending on the range. List them separately and check each product page to confirm grade, contents and availability.

Which grit should I use before painting?

That depends on the substrate, its condition and the product to be applied next. Follow the paint system technical data sheet. Include those details in your enquiry rather than choosing a grit purely out of habit.

Example of manufacturer identification: 3M: Cubitron II 737U disc, reference 51369.
