Caring for personalised workwear starts before the first wash. A sweatshirt may tolerate a treatment that its print does not, and two similar-looking uniforms may use different fabrics. Give your team specific care instructions when you hand out their clothing.
Check the garment label and the branding instructions
There is no single washing temperature for all workwear. The number in the wash tub gives the maximum temperature, while the bars modify the process, as explained by the GINETEX care symbols. Also check the instructions from whoever applied the logo. If the two sets of instructions appear incompatible, ask the supplier before washing.
Embroidery and printing need different consideration
Thread, fabric and finish work together. For printed clothing, Blåkläder recommends washing garments inside out and following its care instructions. Do not assume that one technique tolerates the same treatment as another, or iron directly over a logo without checking that it is permitted. If you are still planning your uniform, compare screen printing and embroidery for workwear and include care requirements in your choice.
Drying is part of the care routine too
Check the relevant symbol before using a tumble dryer. Decide where the uniform can dry and how long it takes to be ready for the next shift. If someone needs the same garment every day, plan a rotation of spare units. This avoids pressure to speed up drying with an unsuitable method.
Create a care record for each uniform
A short record shared with the team is more useful than a generic recommendation. Keep these details with the order:
- The garment reference and customisation technique.
- A readable photograph of the label and the branding instructions.
- The permitted washing and drying process.
- A contact person for a lifting logo or deteriorating fabric.
Make a new record when the garment reference changes, even if you keep the same colours. You can collect these instructions when requesting custom work sweatshirts.
Separate protective clothing from ordinary uniforms
Clothing with a protective function, or contaminated at work, needs the manufacturer’s instructions and the company’s procedure. Do not improvise with stain removers or domestic treatments. For a new order of personalised workwear, explain its use and how it will be washed. We can then check suitable options and care requirements before preparing a quote.
